About

Meet Dr. Lisa Kebejian, M.D.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist and psychotherapist with a warm, thoughtful, and collaborative approach to care. I provide integrated treatment—often combining medication management and psychotherapy—working in partnership with each individual to create meaningful, lasting change.

Education & Training

I grew up in Towson, Maryland, and attendedRoland Park Country School before earning my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and Behavior (cum laude) from Columbia University. While there, I had the rare opportunity to study under Nobel Prize–winning neuroscientist Dr. Eric Kandel—an experience that sparked my lifelong interest in the relationship between mind, brain, and behavior. I was also honored to lead the graduation procession as Senior Marshal, an honor bestowed for academic excellence and contribution to the community.

I earned my medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed dual residency training in Pediatrics (2013) and Psychiatry (2016) at the University of Maryland and Sheppard Pratt. This combined background gives me a deep understanding of development across the lifespan and a comprehensive perspective on mental health. During my training, I was honored to receive the Clarence G. Schulz Prize for Best Psychotherapy Paper, awarded for my work exploring the depth and nuance of the therapeutic process.

Advanced Psychotherapy Training

During my psychiatry training, I had the privilege of weekly one-on-one supervision with leading experts in psychoanalytic/psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and trauma-focused therapies—experiences that shaped me into a thoughtful, well-rounded therapist. My dual background in pediatrics and psychiatry continues to guide my work and deepens my empathy for those I treat.

I have also completed the:

  • Adult Psychoanalytic Fellowship of the Baltimore Washington Center for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis (2015), and the
  • Psychoanalytic Studies Program of the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis (2017)

This foundation allows me to integrate a variety of therapeutic approaches into each treatment plan, tailoring care to each individual’s goals and needs.

Experience & Background

Before opening my private practice in 2018, I served as an attending psychiatrist and psychotherapist at Sheppard Pratt Health System, where I treated individuals from across the country with complex diagnostic presentations as part of the Trauma Disorders Program. This experience of leading a multidisciplinary treatment team at the highest level of care continues to inform my sensitive, nuanced approach today.

My career has spanned a wide range of settings, including:

  • Inpatient psychiatric units
  • Outpatient clinics
  • Crisis stabilization programs
  • Emergency psychiatry
  • Leading psychotherapy groups and multidisciplinary treatment teams
  • Multiple specialty rotations

These experiences have given me a flexible, comprehensive approach—supporting patients through everything from acute crises to long-term personal growth.

Research & Academic Involvement

I am passionate about education and mentorship. As an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, I have enjoyed training psychiatry residents in both the art and science of psychotherapy.

I am also twice recipient of the Summer Intramural Research Training Award at the National Institute on Aging of the National Institutes of Health, where I worked in the Laboratory of Neurosciences.

My academic work and publications have included:

  • Teaching psychodynamic theory through film
  • Research on trauma-related sleep disturbances
  • Studies of dietary and metabolic effects on brain function
  • Investigations of caloric restriction in Alzheimer’s disease

I bring this integrative perspective into my clinical work, blending scientific understanding with depth-oriented therapy.
